Iran’s President Slightly Injured in Reported Israeli Strikes on Tehran Facility

 new

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was reportedly lightly wounded during an Israeli attack on a secret underground complex in Tehran last month. According to the state‑linked Fars news agency, on 16 June six precision bombs struck all access points and the ventilation system of the facility, where Pezeshkian was attending an emergency meeting of the Supreme National Security Council.

As the blasts knocked out electricity and sealed off usual escape routes, the president and other officials fled through an emergency shaft. Pezeshkian sustained minor leg injuries but reached safety without further incident. Iran’s authorities are now investigating possible infiltration by Israeli agents, though Fars’s account remains unverified and Israel has offered no public comment.

Social media footage from the 12‑day conflict showed repeated strikes on a mountainside northwest of Tehran. It is now clear that on the war’s fourth day, that barrage targeted this subterranean vault housing Iran’s top decision‑makers—including, it appears, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was moved to a separate secure site.

In the opening hours of the conflict, Israel eliminated many senior IRGC and army commanders, catching Iran’s leadership off guard and paralyzing decision‑making for over a day. Last week, Pezeshkian accused Israel of attempting to assassinate him—an allegation denied by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz, who insisted “regime change” was not the war’s aim.

The strikes followed Israel’s surprise 13 June raid on Iranian nuclear and military installations, justified as preventing Tehran’s pursuit of a nuclear weapon. Iran retaliated with its own air attacks, while denying any intention to weaponize uranium. On 22 June, the U.S. Air Force and Navy struck three Iranian nuclear sites; President Donald Trump later declared the facilities “obliterated,” even as some U.S. intelligence agencies urged caution about the long‑term impact.
